Alfred Hitchcock - The Master of Suspense GALLERY
Mini biography: Alfred Hitchcock was born in 1899 in Leytonstone, London, England. His father, William, was a greengrocer. His interest in movies began when he was in his mid-teens, and in 1920 he secured a job as a title designer for Lasky, which opened a studio in London. He got his first opportunity to direct in 1923 when the director for "Always Tell Your Wife" became ill, and Hitchcock stepped in to finish the picture. Taken by his ability at the craft, the studio gave him his first film to direct, entitled "Number 13" (1922). This picture was halted when the studio closed its London branch, and Alfred Hitchcock would have to wait until 1925 to direct his first fully produced film for the studio that would become Gainsborough Pictures. The film was entitled "The Pleasure Garden" (1925), where from his legendary career began to grow, spanning more than fifty years.
