Not sure if this is where this goes, but I'm so amped right now, I don't care.
The Breakfast Club I love it when I gamble on buying a DVD of a movie I've never seen and having come out as a massive win. This movie is the biggest win I've had on a gamble. Ever. I went in expecting to see what I've seen in numerous parodies and homages of the film. And I saw just that, only much much better. I knew it was gonna be a fun movie with a great 80's soundtrack and a feel good ending, but I never knew expected to see what I saw when I got to the guts of the movie. I have a new addition to my list of favourite characters in John Bender. Great conflict between him and pretty much every other character in the movie, including his unseen father. I knew there'd be some depth to Bender and that we'd be given a reason to his rhyme throughout the movie. When he got up and gave the guys an impression of what his home life is like, I knew what to expect, but I didn't expect to be so drawn into his emotional gravitational pull. The sceen with him and the teacher dude in the room alone was so intense, I wanted him to throw a punch, but at the same time didn't. I knew deep down he was better than that. And he was. Then came the scene where they're explaining the reason why they're all there in the first place. Emilio Estevez's monologue was the bait and I was hooked, his sorrow for his victim and hatred for his dad and the way he decribed it all... nothing else around me existed, I was in tunnel vision. Then along came Anthony Michael Hall... and his reason for being there. Never before have I shed a tear while watching a movie, but when I realized why he was there, I'm not ashamed to say I had more than a couple of tears running down my cheek. I knew then that I had fallen in love with a movie. Thank god the cast helped my regain my composure the same way I did. The flare gun explained the burnt out locker at the started I WTF'd at and I had to laugh. The rest of the movie followed through like the smoothest Tiger Woods golf swing. Ended on a great note and a perfect 92 minute runtime. It's now battling Goodfellas for my #1 movie spot. It's that good. Never before have I felt so refreshed after watching a movie. My only regret is that I'll never get to see the movie for the first time ever again.

I have to comment on this line.. My only regret is that I'll never get to see the movie for the first time ever again. How poetic is that, and I feel that way alot, but then it makes me excitied for you younger folks when I think of all the really really great movies that are out there and you haven't seen yet. The world is your oyster!

Breakfast Club is one of those movies I could watch again and again. My brother and his friends went for a record when it hit the movie theatre and saw it 37 times. It's one of the few movies I know every line to. I'm so glad you saw it and enjoyed it so much, AB- there are so few movies that usually can move a person that way, but damn- it's a great feeling when you find one
I really identified with Molly Ringwald's character in high school, although I wish I could say Ally Sheedy's, because her character was so much cooler to me What do you guys do in your club? --Well, in physics we... we talk about physics, properties of physics. So it's sorta social, demented and sad, but social. Right? Hey, how come Andrew gets to get up? If he gets up, we'll all get up, it'll be anarchy! Well, Brian, this is a very nutritious lunch. All the food groups are represented. Did your mom marry Mr. Rogers? --Uh, no. Mr. Johnson. That's very clever, sir. But what if there's a fire? I think violating fire codes and endangering the lives of children would be unwise at this juncture in your career, sir. |

what's kinda funny is, even though Judd Nelson' character was the group i came from,(and yes, i graduated 3 years before this movie came out -- hush ya mouths) i DID identify with ally sheedy's character more since her reason WAS the usual reason i ended up in detention. countlessly ![]() and yes, damn fine review a.b.
