Default The Color Purple

This is the first time I watched the film in its entirety. Sadly, I was disappointed. I felt that it went far too heavy on the mush factor in certain scenes. Then again, there were others that were masterful, such as the shaving scene with Celie.

I thought the earlier scenes in the film were the best. It seemed to simply fall apart towards the end. And how Oprah didn't win an Oscar for this I'll never understand.

Anyway, I think this is an excellent film. The cinematography is beyond beautiful, but it becomes far too overladen with sugar towards the end.

This is one of my all time favorites. Maybe it was because I watched for the first time when I was 12 and it had such a strong impact on me. I find it absolutely flawless and it helds so well with each viewing. Whoopi Goldberg delivered one of the finest female performances ever.

I have this on tape, really need to watch this.

I'm not a huge Spielberg fan, but it is of interest.

Not much of a novel, not much of a film, in my opinion. Very nice movie, technically speaking. Noble and refined, certainly, but ponderous and shamelessly manipulative, too.
