Default Witchfinder General/The Conqueror Worm

A newly-restored print of Witchfinder General is being projected at the MOMA in New York today. Since it's theatrical release was before my time, I would love to see this movie in the theater.

Oh cool!!!

I've only ever seen the old original print in the cinema (and that was edited). I have the 'newly restored' complete version on DVD. They have re-edited back into it a couple of scenes originally deemed too offensive/violent for UK audiences. However the scenes are taken from inferior Italian prints of the film and so there is a noticable change in picture quality when these scenes are put back in.

Ignoring his St Louis accent, Vincent Price oozes evil as Matthew Hopkin, the self titled 'Witchfinder General', a real person who was responsible for the deaths of hundreds of alleged 'witches' during the 17th century.

A classic film..if historically inaccurate. The real Hopkins' victims were all hanged...not burnt at the stake!

I dearly hope that there will be prints of this restoration in circulation soon . . . or at least a really good DVD.

Well..as I say..there is a restored complete/un cut version available. I have it...but they explain at the beginning that the restored scenes have been restored to the best of their ability using state of the art technology but they apologies for any change in picture quality.
It would be really good to have an uncut version that doesn't have the drop in picture quality for those scenes, though.

Right, IQ. And the VHS version is the movie as it was released in the US, which I understand is quite different (and not in a good way) from the version Charlie is lucky enough to own.
