i watched this movie and was just wondering what your thoughts where.

I brilliant but horribly misunderstood film. It never became exactly what Kubrick had in mind. Nonetheless . . .

i saw it as either a very complicated or very simple. i saw it as a depressed wealthy couple going up in flames that have sexual need that can't be fullfilled by the other. then a docter follows his friend to a secret sex ritual. it ended up being about two scenes short of a porno and i didn't enjoy iy because i found my self thinking about to much rather than enjoying the movie.

Personally I really enjoyed Eyes Wide Shut. I wish I had seen it more recently so that I could remember enough to write indepth on it. However currently I will keep it short, I thought it was an incredibly interesting and compelling movie. On the surface Kubrick is able to create a rather mystifying film that has a great disturbing atmosphere, great acting from actors with questionable talent (Cruise), beautiful looking design and a thrilling tale. The film also goes much deeper than that, by exploring any number of psycholigical themes to do with the main characters. As well as general themes and messages from the movie that delve into notions of sin, sexuality, fidelity, love and lust and obviously links these themes with the above mentioned psychology of the main characters.

I think the great tragedy of the film is that most viewers don't see the underlying message to film, something about the movie seems to invite viewers to dismiss it as "pretentious", "meaningless" or even just "glorified porn". I guess you could consider that a justifiable criticism of the film, in that some where along the way Kubrick struggled to portray what he actually wanted from the film.

Well that was my poorly written opinion of what I think is a brilliant, but misunderstood movie. I recommend it to every one.

Well, I think the first big challenge many people have with this movie is ambiguity about what is actually happening and what is fantasy. Are we supposed to believe that all this is actually happening to Bill? Is it Bill's counter-fantasy triggered by Alice's confessed fantasy? It's it Alice's fantasy about what Bill fantasizes about? Perhaps it's all of the above.

I understand what your saying. The real stroy behind the movie is their fantasy's. she has a fantasy about another man and his fantasy is about being with tons of other woman. and then by being honest with one another helped them express theirselves and probably helped their relationship.
