The film doesn't center as much on upper and lower class differences, but as a live-in-maid with the same family for some 25 years. She has embraced the family as her own, since she has very little contact with hers. She has helped raised 4 children.
It's a very moving account of a lonely and exasperated woman, especially when the family feels that Raquel (the maid) at 45 and signs of illness can't handle all the work. Thus, additional help arrives. Raquel feels threatened and angry. She needs a plan to rid the house of the additional help and reinforce her postion. It's a touching film of redemption and rediscovery. Catalina Saavedra as the maid offers a very appeling appearance. B+ Jack |
