Well from what I could find on these boards no-one has done a similar thread to this, and if they have please point me in the right direction. But from what I could tell everyone was keen to name more than 5 or 10 films as there favourites so I thought this would make it more interesting.
First to contradict the thread title I will start with my favourite 30... 1. The Big Lebowski 2. Me and You and Everyone We Know 3. The Graduate 4. Dogville 5. Paths Of Glory 6. Serenity 7. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang 8. Sympathy For Mr. Vengeance 9. Pitch Black 10. The General 11. The Way of The Gun 12. Pulp Fiction 13. Fight Club 14. Down By Law 15. Reservoir Dogs 16. The Dark Knight 17. American Psycho 18. Fargo 19. O Brother, Where Art Thou 20. Casablanca 21. Snatch. 22. The Triplets of Belleville 23. JSA 24. Dumb and Dumber 25. A Serious Man 26. Adaptation 27. The Host 28. The Man Who Wasn't There 29. The Proposition 30. Dr. Strangelove And now what I consider the 'best' 30 films ever made, these were all rated on story, writing, directing, acting and cinemaography, and averaged to give the following scores and positions... 1. Paths Of Glory (1957, Stanley Kubrick) - 9.46 2. Casablanca (1942, Michael Curtiz) - 9.34 3. Gone With The Wind (1939, Victor Fleming) - 9.32 4. Dogville (2004, Lars von Trier) - 9.32 5. Sympathy For Mr. Vengeance (2002, Chan-Wook Park) - 9.32 6. O Brother Where Art Thou (2000, Coen Brothers) - 9.32 7. Pulp Fiction (1994, Quentin Tarantino) - 9.24 8. The Big Lebowski (1998, Coen Brothers) - 9.24 9. Fight Club (1999, David Fincher) - 9.22 10. The General (1926, Buster Keaton & Clyde Bruckman) - 9.20 11. Oldboy (2003, Chan-Wook Park) - 9.20 12. The Good, The Bad And The Ugly (1966, Sergio Leone) - 9.20 13. Fargo (1996, Coen Brothers) - 9.16 14. Seven Samurai (1954, Akira Kurosawa) - 9.12 15. No Country For Old Men (2008, Coen Brothers) - 9.12 16. JSA (2000, Chan-Wook Park) - 9.08 17. Who's Afraid Of Virginia Woolf? (1966, Mike Nichols) - 9.08 18. In The Mood For Love (2000, Kar Wai Wong) - 9.06 19. Yôjinbô (1961, Akira Kurosawa) - 9.06 20. Reservoir Dogs (1992, Quentin Tarnatino) - 9.02 21. Unforgiven (1992, Clint Eastwood) - 9.00 22. Monty Python And The Holy Grail (1975, Terry Gilliam & Terry Jones) - 8.96 27. Ran (1985, Akira Kurosawa) - 8.96 28. Grave Of The Fireflies (1988, Isao Takahata) - 8.94 29. Stagecoach 29. Old Yeller 30. The Outlaw Josey Wales This is copied from a top 100 I made awhile ago and probably varies a little based on my mood. As far as a list for "best made" films....the list would probably be exactly the same except take Grumpy Old Men out at #2, move everybody up and put Pulp Fiction at #30
