This weekend we watched 'Hugo', which I thought was delightful. Beautifully filmed by Scorsese and great performances by the mainly English cast. Wonderful recreations of the early days of cimema, too.
'Puss In Boots'..we have a soft spot for the Banderas voiced Puss. Also found this nicely entertaining. We then snapped out of our 'soft and fluffy' state of mind to watch 'The Thing' prequel. It does dovetail quite nicely into the opening of Carpenter's version. Obviously, given it's the same beastie in an almost identical location (an antarctic station) there will be times when scenes look very familiar to Carpenter's but the CGI has done the beast proud. Quite liked this.

Had a double bill of Rocky and Rocky 2 as they were on the telly last night.
Also watched One last chance, low budget flick, pretty good. And got through the entire 1st season of Doll house last weekend. Oh, and Immortals, which wasn't half as bad as I thought it'd be.

TCM showed Casablanca this evening.
Still a great movie. I guess I am a sucker for a movie with a map. Love the roulette scene where the Romanian wins the money for their exit visa. |

Last nightI watched 'Micmacs' a wonderfully quirky French comedy from the director of 'Alien:Resurrection', 'Amelie', 'Delicatessen' and the brilliant 'City Of Lost Children'.
From IMDb Avid movie-watcher and video store clerk,Bazil, has had his life all but ruined by weapons of war. His father was killed by a landmine in Morocco and one fateful night a stray bullet from a nearby shootout embeds itself in his skull, leaving him on the verge of instantaneous death. Losing his job and his home, Bazil wanders the streets until he meets Slammer, a pardoned convict who introduces him to a band of eccentric junkyard dealers including Calculator, a math expert and statistician, Buster, a record-holder in human cannonball feats, Tiny Pete, an artistic craftsman of automatons, and Elastic Girl, a sassy contortionist. When chance reveals to Bazil the two weapons manufacturers responsible for building the instruments of his destruction, he constructs a complex scheme for revenge that his newfound family is all too happy to help set in motion Yes, it's subtitled but don't let that put you off. Oz, I think you'd really like this.

Killer Elite.
Not brilliant, I have to say, considering the cast, but it's ok. Sucker Punch, which was terrible. Crank {again}, still good. In Time, Not too shabby. Could have easily been a lot worse. The Boat that Rocked, which was pretty good.

I have been watching movies once a week from my childhood. The pick this week was "Innerspace" (1987) still a very good popcorn movie.

Since our little glitch when the forum was down for a day or so we appear to have lost the last two months posts..
EDIT: Ah! I've just read Klance's explanation on the Lobby boards

Back to back 1987 for this weeks throwback pick. "*Batteries Not Included" (1987). Corny and slow at times but still a good movie for kids.

Watched the third Transformers film yesterday. I'm not a huge fan of the franchise but my girlfriend was keen to see it so I sat through it. I have to say it was the one i found the most enjoyable of the series (which isn't saying much) even if it was still a glorified toy ad.
