Default The Amazing Spider-man

Finally got to see this last Friday...

And I gotta say that Amazing it isn't.

It's a darker story this time around, but they didn't push the envelope. It was hinting at some darker stuff, but never quite delivered.

One of the things that bugged {parden the pun} me was the progression of his suit.

In the Sam Raimi first movie, you saw the progression of the design in quite a bit of detail... This one? One scene he's wearing a ski mask, next he's looking at a catalogue, then, fully designed spider-man suit. It was a bit lazy on the part of the writers/director.

My next problem, was the xbox level cgi. It was terrible! In particular two parts, 1} when there was this god-awful spider-man eye view as he was climbing over a building and 2} The Lizard. He looked like a half formed Hulk.
Again, awful.

The story wasn't that great either, being about the Lizard wanting to make mankind like him, by introducing a virus into the atmosphere.

But only in new york's atmosphere.

The new Peter Parker is Ok, Rhys Ifans as Dr Connors does an Ok job of it, but the whole movie feels like they were trying too hard to emulate Sam Raimi's movies.

It just felt like an adertisement for the inevitable sequel.

Dissapointing.

The whole concept of how Spidey got his outfit has always bugged me. The outfit that Big Daddy (Nic Cage) wears in Kick-Ass, for example is simply a French Riot Police kit that has been customised and is available (at a price) on the Internet. Bruce Wayne customises the high tech body armour his own company made and has the rest made by various companies around the world. Iron Man's suit is self expalnatory but I've never grasped how a teenager like Peter Parker could make himself such a snug fitting outfit out of such a distinctive patterned material? I mean..did it come with the webbing pattern or did he add that himself? If so he must be a bloody wizz with a needle and cotton. Did he by two Unitards (one red and one blue) cut them up and re-sew them back together to get the contrast? Plus, as his fingertips and soles of his feet are the bits that allow him to climb walls the material at those points has to be incredibly thin to allow for contact...

I guess, when it comes to super heroes if you look too closely at stuff you're bound to find huge holes. Nothing requires the willing suspention of disbelief more than a super hero!

As for the new Spidey film..we'll get around to seeing it when it comes out on DVD from Love Film. I'm not paying the best partof £25 for the two of us to see it in the cinema surrounded by chatting teens.

ahhh I've seen it twice :F Mind you the second time was pretty much free because of coupons. But I kept having too much fun.
I've got a light knowledge of spiderman's history and there were a lot of times when I though those "dark things" were gonna happen, but then they didn't.
So, I'm excited for a sequel, liked the new spiderguy, and gwen stacy is a lot more love-able than mj.
I do dislike that cg gook that pops up, but it's loads better than the cg in the sam raimi movies. Also, spiderman banters and jokes! Toby maguire never joked!
The story is lack luster, but I like the lizard's face. Big ol' creepy grins are a fave of mine.

@Charlie: I think he's supposed to be some kinda whiz. I always thought the web shooter was bananas. Of course there's that crazy disbelief but maybe the spider-powers strengthen his brain power and speed? Also, there is a scene where he's making the suit, spray painting a spider. When you get close up shots you can see the wearing of the paint from fights and such. So my guess is he painted the blue on and either stenciled the web patterns or hand painted them. Maybe it's some kinda running suit? Designed to protect the skin from friction?

Yes, I should've mentioned that.

The only complaint I ever had about the original movies, was the lack of dialogue from Spider-man. As a long time fan of the books, I was looking forward to some banter... Spidey banters so much with the bad guys in the books, because he is rightly terrified of them and uses his jokes and insults as a weapon to get his opponents good and mad so they make mistakes.

That was put right in the new film, and was the only point I really enjoyed.
