Based on Susan Hill's classic ghost story this stars Daniel Radcliffe as young lawyer Arthur Kipps who has to travel to the remote Eel Marsh house is the very North of England to sort the papers of the late owner. While there he receives a cold welcome from the locals and experiences strange noises and sees a mysterious Woman In Black watching the house from afar and appearing at windows when he's outside. Who is she? Why is she haunting the house? And why, when ever she's seen, does a child's death in horrible circumstances follow?
This was made as a TV drama by the BBC back in the 80's and was very well done. This version, scripted by Jane Goldman (Kick-Ass, Stardust, X-Men:FirstClass) takes a few liberties with the source material changing a number of plot points including the location and the ending of the film completely. Nicely filmed..great location (same isolated island -accessable by a causeway at low tide- that was used in the 80's version) some mild shocks but nothing really scary. I saw the stage play of this about 20 years ago (still running in London's west end) and it was far,far scarier than this film.

Yea I liked this one alot I have a tendency to lean towards atmosphere and unsettling scares than the usual jump scares or the horrible gore porn. I thought Daniel did an excellent job of seperating himself from his harry potter character in this film. the location and backgrounds are where this movie shines the most in my opinion.

I spent most of the time watching this film with a pillow over my face. It scared me. I thought that it was very atmospheric and nicely shot. I just hated Daniel Radcliffe in it and thought he was rather wooden.

Then I suggest you never go see the stage version. You'll crap yourself! Seriously. It's THAT scary.

I thought this was damn good and quite scary (I watched it twice). I agree with Charlie, I loved the location as well. I'll be adding this to my collection soon. I give this film a 5.5/10
