I think Robert Plant actually did that. At least that's what I read in the current issue of Mental Floss which also listed the other band aids besides Pennie Lane as Sexy Sandy, The Real Camille, Magnificent Meg and Caroline Can-Can. An alliterative bunch.

I've mentioned this in another thread a while back but it fits in nicely here, too.

I knew a 20yr old American girl who, when asked who wrote War Of The Worlds'? answered with all seriousness 'Orsen Welles'

Because of the age difference between my girlfriend and I (15 yrs) there are loads of film, tv and pop culture references that I make and they mean nothing to her.She simply wasn't born (or wasn't old enough for it to register on her consciousness ) when it happend. I don't think of her as 'ignorant' when she says 'What's 'The Hitch Hiker's Guide to The Galaxy?' or doesn't know that 'Assault on Precinct 13' was originally a John Carpenter film..or says she's never heard of 'Straw Dogs'..or any number of films, tv shows, bands and actors who were 'big ' before about 1980
Firstly, her interest in films isn't as..shall we say 'intense'...(oh all right, 'anal') as mine is so I wouldn't expect her to know loads of stuff I just take as common knowledge...but most importantly, when I get a blank look from her in response to "You know that scene at the end of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid...?" I don't consider her 'ignorant' because she is unfamiliar with this much loved and memorable image I just say "Aw.....you're just too young!"

This has been a great topic. Because of all of our chatting on the subject, I have decided I need to be much more forgiving and lenient of people who just stare at me with a blank look when I mention some film classic film that I hold dear to my heart. Not everyone is the obsessive cineophile that I seem to be.

Next time it happens I will have to try and control my eye-rolling.

And there are plenty of other subjects that I am oblivious to, that hold no interest for me.

Yep. This thread has made me rethink my initial response to someone who doesn't know something, weather it be film, or anything. It's not like people purposely don't learn something, for the enjoyment of annoying you. (well maybe some do) Most people are eager to know what you want them to know. I'm sure when we roll are eyes it just makes them feel insignificant.

I remember one of my brothers telling me, 'your strength is someone else's weakness, but always remember that it goes both ways.' It always kind of put me in my place on where I stand with people. I know more about movies than the majority of my friends because it's the form of entertainment I most enjoy. However, the reverse is also true (quick, what movie? ) ; that there is something I'm totally unfamiliar with that someone else knows in detail...
