Yeah, over here, we spell it 'definitely.'

My great-great-grandfather, John Milner, actually founded Birmingham, Alabama. So, you can blame me (on his behalf) for that one.

I jest, but I understand. Since I grew up with several British friends, studied a lot of British history, and watch a lot of Tony Robinson on History Channel International, I actually am pretty good with most of these. Hopefully, if I run into you while I'm on vacation (sorry, on holiday), I won't goof too many of them up.

What I can never understand about Britain is when to use '-shire' and when not to. For example, is it 'Devon', or 'Devonshire'? And why isn't there a 'Kentshire' or a 'Leedshire'? Round here, Louisiana excepting, it's always so-and-so 'county', although we did away with Counts a long time ago.

"It being a K-car, there's always some hot liquid spewing out of it somewhere." Then he stabbed the radiator with a pitchfork.

I live and die with duct tape. I always have a roll around somewhere. In fact, there's a clump of it supporting the back of the chair in which I am currently sitting.

What bothers me is the word "woof." As in, "My dog is part woof." Also, Febuary, its/it's, less/fewer, and nuke-yoo-ler.

My husband and I are Red Green fanatics.....I love all the things he makes...His nephew Harold is my favorite character on the show.

The classic line:

Red: "If the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy".

It's perfectly ok to call any of the counties that end in 'shire' by the first part of the name, so 'Devon' is ok for Devonshire. Buckinghamshire, Hampshire and Berkshire are normal referred to as Bucks, Hants (not Hamps) and Berks (pronounced Barks not Berks)

You won't find a 'Leedshire' as Leeds is a City within the county of Yorkshire (or Yorks for short)...And Lancashire is normally just Lancs...

In fact just about any place in the UK ending in 'shire' can be pronounced without the 'shire' bit and everyone will know where you mean. It's kind of superfluous these days.

Oh..and touche with the 'definitely'

I just figure that being in foreign countries, people take one look at me, know I'm American and hate me anyway. I got quite a bit of this in Spain. Funny how they didn't say anything to me in English except when they made it a point to clearly say 'Stupid American' whenever I was in earshot. My brother got quite a bit of this over in London last year as well. At least pronouncing every word wrong in other countries lends reason to them for hating me and it's not just flagrant hatred because of the country I represent.

Besides, every country has 'foreigners' who say/do the most stupid of things, be it mispronounciation or whatnot. The thing I'm most tired of is when people from overseas check out Ground Zero, proclaiming how the events of 9/11 were the most wrenching thing to happen to them. While I appreciate the meaning behind it, the actual experience was a lot different than seeing it on television. I know there was a ton of media coverage on it and such, and had it happened in another country, I'm sure I'd want to see it myself-that doesn't bother me in the least. It's the people who proclaim how they 'know how it was' because they watched it on tv. Sorry, no.

I was sitting in geometry class when the assistant pricipal came over the speakers and told us all. My friends and I didn't believe it until we saw it on the tv a few classes later. Then it was just kind of a somber mood the rest of the day.

We were getting new doors put in. Dad called from work saying what had happened, we all sat down and watched.....even the door installation guy. Just kinda one of those jaw droppers.
