Default Early 2009 Best Picture Predictions

Lovely Bones
Nine
Precious
Invictus
Bright Star
The Hurt Locker
Up
A Serious Man
Up in the Air

Several very interesting films I'm looking forward to. "Invictus" is the next Clint Eastwood directed film, with Morgan Freeman as Mandella. "Nine" is the Rob Marshall musical, with the great Daniel Day-Lewis. And "A Serious Man" is from the Coen Brothers. I've already seen "The Hurt Locker' several times and as of today, the best (IMO)

Jack

Without even seeing it, I'd have to guess that Shutter Island will be a serious candidate.

I am really looking forward to Shutter Island, Marty never disappoints me and what a great cast and story. Also I am really excited to see what he does with the 50's.

"Shutter Island" is being pushed back to 2/2010. That's not good!. Besides psychological thriller drama's aren't usually big crowd pleasures.

According to imdb, it's still being release on October 2. And what does being a crowd pleaser have to do with getting an Oscar nomination??? I'm assuming you meant Academy Awards when you said "Best Picture".

Oh, and another October release that may get consideration is The Road.

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - In an unexpected move, Paramount has pushed the domestic release date of the latest Martin Scorsese/Leonardo DiCaprio collaboration, "Shutter Island," from October 2 to February 19.

It is also moving the film's international rollout to February.

The move leaves the studio's fall slate devoid of high-profile releases, with the exception of writer-director Peter Jackson's "The Lovely Bones," adapted from the bestselling Alice Sebold novel. That film, which stars Mark Wahlberg and Rachel Weisz, does not open until December 11.

The voters of the Academy have a tendency to cast their vote towards crowd pleasures, such as last years "Slumdog".

"I loved "The Road" novel, but it's will also be a very difficult film for the average movie fan. Surviving by any means of a father and son. BTW, The Road was also pushed back from last year, and may again. Studios are having financial problems,

That really sucks....

If crowd pleaser is that important to the Academy, how come Transformers didn't get nominated or Spider-Man or Will Smith in every role he has ever played....I didn't know Slumdog was that big of a crowd pleaser...I thought it was more of a critic pleaser.
