Default Favorite Gangster Films

In honor of this weeks theme, I thought we could talk about some of our favorite gangster films.

The Godfather
series is pretty much the standard (maybe not including part 3). I prefer #2 over the first one,

but my favorite gangster movie of all time is Goodfellas.
Scorsese has made some great ones besides Goodfellas...Mean Streets, Casino, The Departed.

Then there are Tarantino's gangsters...Reservoir Dogs & Pulp Fiction.

Leone's Once Upon a Time in America is superb, as is De Palma's Scarface.

And let's not forget the classics, such as the original Scarface with Paul Muni, Edward G. Robinson in Little Caesar, and of course James Cagney....Angels with Dirty Faces, The Public Enemy, White Heat, and my favorite The Roaring Twenties.

Oh yeah, I forgot about Bonnie and Clyde...maybe not strictly a gangster movie, but definitely belongs somewhere in this category.

Not surprisingly several of my fav 'gangster' flicks are British:
The Long Good Friday is probably the best British gangster film ever made...
The Krays
Gangster No. 1
Sexy Beast
Get Carter (the Caine original not that Stallone mess)
Lock Stock & Two Smoking BArrells
Snatch
RockNRolla
Villain

Goodfellas is my favourite American gangster flick. Scarface (both the Pacino remake and the Paul Muni original), Reservoir Dogs. Some old classics as well..most of the Cagney films (as mentioned above) are well worth a viewing.

Yeah because so many hit men are working for a mob, unless they are "independent contractors" like Irene Walker, but then she did most of her work for the mob too.

I forgot, well remembered, Prizzi's Honor one of the best gangster movies ever made.
