My favorite Christmas memory is one that started an annual memory. It was 14 years ago and I decided we were going to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life. Okay...more Suburb life, but close enough. I rented a home at Smith Mountain Lake and it's been memories since. We take a family polar plunge into the lake every Christmas Morning. We all throw on our bathing suits and run down into the lake and back to the house for warm clothes and hot chocolate.

My fovorite Christmas memory is roasting chestnuts over the open fire. Yep, we go to the extreemes. We build a fire in a barrel outback. Get some hot chocolate and roast some chestnuts. Not as razzle and dazzle as other families, but it's a great time hanging with each othr.

Mine isn't so much of a memory that a tradition.

I generally cannot remember what happens on christmas day, it is tradition to go out and get drunk on christmas eve, get back early christmas day.

Sleep until lunch when you get up and open presents eat.

Then in my house after lunch me, my sister and my mum get drunk on cocktails. We make them all from scratch and have a really fun evening together!

Smile Sad One

This christmas memory for me is kind of both a sad and a happy one depending on how one would like to see it. Last Dec 2009, I called my grandmother who just had a stroke in the Philippines and greeted her Merry Christmas. She was the one who took care of me growing up. She has a sister here who she wanted to speak to and greet Merry Christmas too so I sent her money in minutes so she can buy a prepaid card and call her sister. After a few minutes she was able to. I had no idea that that will be our last xmas conversation. She passed away early 2010. The last conversation I had with her was on her bday Feb 10th, she passed away March 3rd. Dec 2010 xmas was one of the saddest christmas for me because I couldn't hear her voice anymore......

Christmas memories....decorating the tree with old Christmas music playing, getting together with family, and of course, the annual watching of "Elf"! I saw that one twice in the theater the year it came out, and once was on Christmas day!

Thanks for the contest!
