America, America DVD Contest
Based on Elia Kazan's bestselling novel based on his uncle's life, America, America is one of the director's most personal films. It tells the story of a young Greek man named Stavros (Stathis Giallelis) who lives an unfulfilled life in Turkey selling ice in the town market. Even though the Greeks are oppressed by the Turks, they refuse to leave the land of their ancestors. However, Stavros has a different idea. Fed up with being humiliated on a daily basis, he decides to gather together a little money and make his way to Constantinople. From there, he is able to save and plan for his ultimate dream, America. Special Features: Commentary by Historian Foster Hirsch Own it on DVD on February 8, 2011. For more information on this and other WB releases, visit Warner Bros. Official Site. ![]() To Enter the DVD Contest: In a reply to this post, share with everyone a movie you like that involves the characters immigrating to America. What? Don't eat the eggs. We put LSD in the eggs. And the water. I put LSD in the main water tank. What? But, we drank the water! Yeah! |

I agree with Joker that it has to be Coming to America....
but I don't want it to look like I'm lazy or cheating, so I'll also mention An American Tail....little Fievel, the Russian mouse, trying to find his family.

It's got to be Scarface with the brilliant Al Pacino as Antonio Montana, the Cuban immigrant.

I think Far and Away is the best movie about American immigration. The scenes in Fun with Dick in jane are probably the funniest.

The Godfather Part II is probably my favorite in this category, but I also should mention Scarface and Gangs of New York. They're all great movies.
