Default Marlowe DVD Contest

Marlowe DVD Contest

From the Warner Bros. Archive Collection, this remastered edition of Marlowe (1969) stars James Garner as private eye Philip Marlowe. The film also features an appearance by Bruce Lee in the role of Winslow Wong, who offers Marlowe a bribe. When Marlowe refuses, Wong uses martial arts to bust up and destroy the detective's office. This all happens after a young woman named Orfamay Quest hires Marlowe to find her missing brother. As Marlowe investigates the case, two leads turn up dead with ice picks stuck in them. Despite threats, blackmail and murder, Marlowe refuses to back off the case. His persistence eventually leads to a break, which allows him to begin the task of putting the pieces together. The movie is based on Raymond Chandler's 1949 novel The Little Sister.

Available on DVD April 26, 2011.

Don't laugh....I loved Murder She Wrote. From Angela Lansbury's day in Bedknobs and Broomsticks to her days as Jessica Fletcher on Murder She Wrote and Magnum PI, I just loved her Who Dunit

NCIS is my favorite. The who dun it factor along with the chemistry of the actors makes it a fantastic show.

Post The Maltese Falcon

Bogart in The Maltese Falcon is my favorite murder mystery gumshoe. Rear Window is another great mystery, but it is more a mystery about if there was a murder or not.

Laura..... great cast... Gene Tierney, Dana Andrews, Clifton Webb, Vincent Price. Great movie, my favorite film-noir. Gene Tierney is beautiful.

Simon & Simon. The duo from the 80's really knew how to solve the cases. Growing up at that time, I would have called them to find my stash of magzines that disappeared from under my bed.

Default James Garner

Since we're in James Garner mode, I'm going to put in a good word for The Rockford Files. It combined humor, suspense, and a surprising amount of grittiness and realism. Too bad it's not on tv these days, in re-runs.

Not sure I'd call DOA (1950 version) a proper murder mystery... but it was certainly a whodunit of sorts, since the main character spent the length of the movie trying to find out who'd "killed" him. Very compelling film with great pacing.
