Default Citizen Kane 70th Anniversary DVD Contest

Citizen Kane 70th Anniversary DVD Contest

Synopsis and DVD Details: Writer, director and actor Orson Welles risk his reputation and career with the release of his 1941 masterpiece Citizen Kane. It was more than obvious to most people that the story was a portrait of newspaper mogul William Randolph Hearst. Often unflattering in his portrayal of the media tycoon, to protect his reputation, Hearst did everything he could to see that Welles' film was never released. Their feud is chronicled in the Oscar nominated documentary The Battle over Citizen Kane, which is included with this DVD collector's edition. Also included in the 3-disc set is the 1999 Golden Globe winning movie RKO 281 (starring Liev Schreiber), which also focuses on the Kane-Hearst feud. In addition to the video content, the DVD set includes a 20-page souvenir program reproduction, a 48-page book with photos, 5 one-sheet lobby card reproductions and more. Here's your chance to get your hands on an extraordinary DVD edition of the landmark movie.

Available on Blu-ray, DVD, On Demand and for Digital Download on September 13, 2011. To learn more, visit Warner Bros. Official Site.

making a statement like that just invites criticism. i do not think that it is the greatest film of all time. it's impossible to pick one and everything is subject to opinion.

I dont get why movie critics think it is such a big deal and why people hold this movie in such high esteem, i tried to watch it and just gave up, i do like old movies but this aint for me, i think that the majority of people that say they like this movie only say so because they feel they have to as the movie is regarded in such esteem(like sheep following the rest of the pack me thinks). Mind you this is coming from me, the same man that hates art because of how people talk about it, im sorry but i cant find beauty in just brush stroke, either the picture is good or it isnt, a painting of a vase with 15 sunflowers on a piece of canvas shoud not have a value of 80 million dollars.

I have to say I have never seen this one and can't make a judgment call. It would be hard even if I did see it since there are many at the top of my list i a specific pecking order. It would throw me off if I did like this one and added it.

It is not the greatest movie of all-time. That's sort of a dumb statement to make about any movie. It was a revolutionary film....but you could say that about anything Griffith or Eisenstein or Murnau made or The Jazz Singer or Gone with the Wind or Wizard of Oz or countless other films. I've come to the conclusion that there really is no "Greatest movie of all-time." My favorite movie is Braveheart, but I would never claim that its the greatest film ever made.

I love this movie. Is it the greatest movie of all time, that's a broad statement.
But it was very innovative and I like the fact that Welles wasn't afraid to take on William Randolph Hearst in this thinly veiled story of his life.

The battle that raged over this film is every bit as fascinating as the film itself.

Never seen it.

I'm not sure if I'd ever actually make a choice to watch it either...

It's been on my list of films to watch for years, but whilst that list has others on it, I'll probably pick those first.

Default It wouldn't be my choice

Having watched it recently, I can see that it was ground-breaking and compelling, but the best ever? I don't know that it holds up as well as that. My choice might be Casablanca, just because of how beloved it is, how watchable it is, how timeless. Though really, I don't think there can be just one "best" film--heck, I don't think there can even be one "best" film every year at the Oscars. Some things simply can't be compared to others.

Post Citizen Kane

This is a tough question that always plagued me. I personally wouldn't choose Citizen Kane as my favorite film of all time, although I do love it. My favorite films resonate with me emotionally whether I relate to the themes, characters, etc.

Choosing the Greatest Film of all time has to outweigh personal tastes and opinions. If I consider that Citizen Kane has highly influenced my favorite films including Casablanca and The Empire Strikes Back and every great film that has come since, then I would have to look for the Greatest Film of all time around the same time as Citizen Kane or earlier.

The Maltese Falcon was released the same year as Citizen Kane, and although I prefer it personally, it's narrative structure is much less complex and it does not contain as much hard work that is necessary in a period piece such as Citizen Kane. The Maltese Falcon was also a remake based on a novel, so it was a less creative endeavor than Citizen Kane.

If Citizen Kane isn't the Greatest Film of all time, then I would have to argue that its predecessor King Kong is the greatest.

No it is not the greatest film of all time and I don't believe it's possible to say which film is the greatest of all time as there are way too many factors to take into consideration. If I had to choose I'd go for One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest but it really is impossible to choose one single film as the greatest.
