Well going by Noah, maybe the "younger crowd" might like it but there was just way too much 'gangsta rap, I did say I'd liked the Rock's performance too and the "Dance number", but I sure wouldn't go to theater to see it just for that.
All I know is when we start a "Worst Film of the Year" thread I'll be there with this, and the year has barely started.

Yeah, I didn't really care for Be Cool as a novel, and I'm leery of any movie made of Elmore Leonard novel. I love Leonard . . . or at least I used to. But while some of the movies came out pretty good--Jackie Brown, Out of Sight, Get Shorty . . . I even kind of liked Touch--there are plenty of bad movie adaptations of his books--Stick, 52 Pick-Up, a 2 different bad versions of The Big Bounce.

There was some talk a few years ago that Tarantino wanted to do Killshot, which would have been cool . . . I think John Madden is going to do it now. And I think Don Cheadle is actually going to direct an adaptation of Tishomingo Blues

. . . and I forgot to mention Bandits, which I didn't think much of either.

I really like Jackie Brown too.

Sorry I'm going a bit off topic here, little else to say about Be Cool though.....

In regards to John Travolta's dancing: in Michael, when he is dancing with all the chick's in the bar.....Man that guy can sure dance up a storm...

They should figure out a way to do a "dance movie" where the plot is nothing more than an device to manipulate Travolta's character into situations where he dances.

Yeah . . . why make us all sit through all these films stingily parsing out the dance numbers one per film. Skip all that other stuff. We just wanna see the man dance!

. . . It worked for Fred Astaire.

Just saw this movie and I have to agree with you Oz, it was terrible. The pathetic attempt to satirise Hollywood conventions etc. was just....pathetic. For example, Travolta says something like "you can only say **** once otherwise you get the R rating" so naturally the film only uses the word once. I was really disappointed with the dance scene as well which I was really looking forward to. The comedy was forced and artificial and Uma Thurman really got on my nerves. Granted there wasn't much to work with in the way of dialogue but its her fault for taking the part. And white people trying to be black...just not funny at all...

Yes, you brought up some good points I neglected to mention....there were just so many things that were just not right about this movie...
