Well less that 2 weeks to go. I am a fan of the series no matter what form it is in (books, tv series, etc.) and so looking forward to this. I'm pretty confident that this will be just as good if not better than the other versions of the story being that each of those changed a little from the original.

Have you guys seen the clips on Yahoo? They even boost my confidence even more that this is going to rock.

I must admit that although when I first read about the big screen version and the fact Mos Def was to be Ford Prefect I groaned.
However some of the clips and pics I've seen make me feel that it may actually be quite good.

My one worry is that every picture I've seen of Zaphod Beeblebrox shows him with one head and two arms!!
When I saw Constintine the preview showed him with 3 arms at a point but only 1 head.

I'm sure everybody doesn't know the real meaning

One of the very first questions Grant and Naylor were asked at the first convention was 'Where did 'Smeg' come from'?

Their answer was they made it up..and found out later what it really meant (or at least what it's an abbreviation of) by which time it was too late to change it. They wanted a word that they could use that sounded like a swear word but they could get away with saying on TV. A bit like 'Feck' in Father Ted. We know what it's supposed to mean..but it isn't quite..

It's weird...I know people who are HUGE fans of the book...I've never read it...I wasn't interested in the movie till I saw that Sam Rockwell was the star, and then the trailer...impressive. Anything with Rockwell in it is worth seeing.

I really don't get the hype around this movie. As someone who immensely enjoyed the novels, it seems like the filmmakers completely and totally missed the boat. The film seems to have none of the subtlty and charm of the books, nor does it seem to have the visual inventiveness necessary to pull it off (not to mention that the visual effects look horribly poor.)

I'm just terribly disappointed by what I've seen so far.

Well...I know he's dead now and can't say anything to defend or denounce the end product but the screenplay for HHGttG was written by Douglas Adams and I'm sure he wouldn't have changed loads of established character traits and plot details.....would he?

I'm hoping it's going to stay true to the spirit of the books...

So far, I am impressed by what I've seen {Zaphod aside that is}...

Everything I've seen looks great too... I will whole-heartedly agree about Zaphod...but I'm thrilled he is being played by Sam Rockwell...even if he does only have one head..

According to Moriarty at Ain't It Cool News:
Quote:
The way they decided to handle Zaphod’s second head is more than just a clever way of keeping the budget down. As Zaphod explains, when he was elected President of the Galaxy, he was told that he was going to have to give up half his brain, since no President is allowed to have a whole one. Zaphod wanted to keep the excised bits close, so had the second head crafted and hidden under the first one. The parts of his brain they put into the second head are the unbridled libido... the temper... all the most volatile pieces of his personality. When that second head comes rolling up, someone’s likely to get punched in the face or some button that shouldn’t be pushed is going to get pushed or something’s going to get stolen. The effect is groovy, but more importantly, it’s character-driven. It’s not just a cheap excuse for a CGI gag, as so many effects seem to be these days.

I gather the second head is totem-poled under the first, and only pops up occasionally. Or something...

Hmm..well that's a novel approach..it might even work!
Has to be better than this:

Mark Wing-Davey as Zaphod from the original BBC Tv series
