I just discovered this movie, based on Frank Miller's graphic novel, about the heroic last stand of the Spartans at Thermopylae. Read a little about it here, more about it here. and a lot more about it here.

Considering that Frank Miller is also responsible for Sin City, this should be visually memorable, if nothing else. I can't find a definite release date, but it says sometime this year.

The only name I recognise in that cast is Gerard Butler...who was Dracula in Dracula 2000/1

I recognize Lena Headey from The Brothers Grimm, but other than those too, yeah, they're all strangers to me too.

Don't care. Still looks great.

--Ooh. That was below the belt. Try to keep the gloves up.

Default 300 casting

I assume one of the main reasons there is few recognizable actors in this film is a result of the casting director's decision to gather a cast of men who look as muscular as the Spartans did in the comic. If you look at the 300 site you can see that all the Spartan actors resembel the physic of the dude in the Bowflex commercial.

Good luck with that!

Irish, I think you're right to a point, but there are plenty of established actors that can be just as physically fit. I suspect it's more that they didn't want it to be a Brad Pitt Film or a Christian Bale Film, but rather a King Leonidas Film.

Well...there have been a number of 'sword and sandal' epics the last few years (Alexander, Troy, Kingdom Of Heaven) none of which have been particularly well recieved...it's brave to try and make another.
However with a script based on a Frank Miller story and Zack 'Dawn of the Dead' Snyder at the helm..this might actually work!
