Ok, it's been well over a month since anybody has been here..
Soooo ...I'm posting again.... Wow, Howards Hughes' 1930 classic Hells Angels is really a must see film. Just got the DVD of it and it is really a quite spectacular movie, the aerial scenes are excellent..espcially when you consider when the film was made. It is really a more intense movie than I remember, I often times get it confused with Wings William Wellman, 1927...starring Clara Bow and Buddy Rodgers and a very young Gary Cooper in a small role. Great movie, you won't be disapointed ...I'm quite sure. Ha...with Hells Angels or Wings for that matter...

Going to put Topper in here, as a must see classic. Very well done screwball comedy, about a fun-loving husband and wife who are killed in a car accident, but remain on earth as "visible at will" ghosts. They decide that they need to do a good deed to get in heaven, and that is why they were still on earth. So they help "Topper" a big businessman, loosen up, as well as bring him and his wife closer.
Watched this with my pappy and we were both crying laughing! Most of the laughing was due to the perfect delivery (from Eugene Pallette, who was a staple supporting actor in the 30's and 40's) of slightly comedic lines...."I had him right where he wanted me!" Starring: Cary Grant, Constance Bennett, and Roland Young (who steals the show).

Another excellent old comedy...Arsenic and Old Lace...1944 Frank Capra..can't ever go wrong with a Frank Capra film...
A drama critic learns on his wedding day that his beloved maiden aunts are homicidal maniacs, and that insanity runs in his family. Cary Grant is the drama critic..also starting Raymond Massy and Peter Lorre. One of the funniest movies ever made... I love Topper too Silver... another definite must see classic....

The Philadelphia Story 1940, directed by George Cukor....one of the best zany/screwball comedies of it's day...or any day...
It won and Oscar for best screenplay and Jimmy Stewart won the best Actor Oscar that year...also starring Cary Grant and Katherine Hepburn... I'm sure Silver will be showing up here shortly to sing it's praises as well.... This is everything a movie should be...smart funny fast paced dialogue abounds...delivered by a stellar cast...

Youuuu betcha! I will back Oz on The Philadelphia Story being a "must see classic". The interaction between Grant and Stewart is just perfect. The scene where Jimmy gets drunk......Best ever Kat Hepburn was her wonderful screwball self, good, as always!Little trivia....The film was shot in eight weeks, and required no retakes. James Stewart thought of hiccupping in the drunk scene himself, without telling Cary Grant. When he began hiccuping, Grant turned to Stewart saying, "Excuse me." The scene required only one take. During the scene where Stewart hiccups when drunk, you can see Cary Grant looking down and grinning. Since the hiccup wasn't scripted Grant was on the verge of breaking out laughing and had to compose himself quickly. Gotta love it!

Hi Silver....I think of this as our thread now....we can just take turns recommending all of the marvelous old classic films to everybody....
I could spend the rest of my life in here doing just that... here's another, Death Takes A Holiday 1934, starring Frederic March as Death...gosh what a great old movie... Death decides to take a holiday from his usual business to see what it is like to be a mortal. If the plot sounds familiar...think Meet Joe Black..which is an extremely poor substitute for the original...

Haha, yes. It does seem as though we have dominated this thread as of late. Go us! It's on topic too
I'm quite positive I've seen Death Takes a Holiday, but I need to refresh my memory. *Jots it down on movies to rent list* I like Meet Joe Black, but it's extreamly long. There is a scene where she stares at him for a good 5 minutes, only to finally say "Joe". Anthony Hopkins is great in it.Back to the classics....I'll recommend Holiday. Kat Hepburn is a bit toned down in this; as a depressed socialite, restrained from being her true self. We also see a bit of Cary Grant's (Who co-stars with Hepburn) acrobatic skills in this one. This is film seems to get lost in classic movie discussions, and it shouldn't. It is one of my favorite Hepburn films.

Of course..it is a good one too....
I know you think Jimmy Stewart is the cat's pajama's...but Cary Grant does it for me in a Big Way...
