I caught this preview (which actually comes out in September) on the 300 disc. It stars Jodie Foster as a victim of a mugging that fights back with Terrence Howard playing a detective investigating the vigilante behavior Foster adopts and starts killing off criminals. This looks WAY interesting and similar to Falling Down, but from a female and much more serious perspective. Directed by Neil Jordan (Crying Game, The Butcher Boy, Interview With the Vampire, and The Company of Wolves), accompanied by cinematographer Philippe Rousselot (remake of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Big Fish, remake of Planet of the Apes, Remember the Titans, Interview With the Vampire), so it should have a real interesting and stylized look and feel to it. The film also stars Naveen Andrews (briefly), Mary Steenburgen, Jane Adams, and Nicky Katt.
I'm all for movies that make you think, "What would you do in that situation?" My only potential problem with this film is that they seem to be showing WAY too much in the trailer. That's IF the movie is only about a woman who is traumatized by a situation, takes the law into her own hands, and, although, seeming to help society by killing off the monsters in her city, becomes a monster herself and winds up in jail or dead. If THAT is the extent of the story without any twists of any kind, I'm not sure if it will be worth a view. But the preview certainly did get me interested... trailer

Double feature. Radio host Erica Bain (Jodie Foster) is working and living a wonderful life in New York City without a care in the world. One night she and her fiancé, David (Naveen Andrews), are brutally attacked by three thugs in the park. David is killed and Erica is beaten within an inch of her life. Erica is traumatized to a point where she can not sleep and will not leave her apartment. To cope and work past this tragic event, Erica becomes someone else. She buys a gun and begins to roam the streets at night looking to take her revenge on the men who were responsible for killing her one true love. I thought this would just be okay but it was a bit better. It stars Jodie Foster, Terrence Howard & Mary Steenburgen. I liked this movie, have always enjoyed Foster. I give this movie a 6. Ken

So..it's virtually 'Death Wish'? Which isn't necessarily a bad thing. I like Jodie Foster a lot and I do love films that have muggers and low lives getting what's coming to them so I will be checking this out when it's released over here.

Still think this sounds so much like Death Wish..but with a female protagonist...

"So..it's virtually 'Death Wish'?" ----- Well, yes. The writers had a clever idea. Make it for the guys that like shootings and revenge, that sort a thing. The movie also appeals to the women audience because its a female shooter, smart idea. I would bet this. Same movie but with a male shooter, it would not of finished first over last weekend. Ken
