Default Blood Simple

The Coen Brother's first movie. I see three of us own it. I am sure anybody who likes the Coen Brother's movies will love it. I think alot of people are unfamiliar with this quirky, grisly, black comedy of theirs.

It a must see for any fan of the Coen Brothers and any movie fan in general.

I am mostly checking things out in the new section and figured I'd make a post.

Just watched this tonight {again} and I can hardly believe no one has been in this thread. Wow folks, if you haven't never seen this little gem, it really is a must see film.
They don't come any grimmer, grisly, quirky, seedy, horrific or comedically blacker than this film. Even though this is their first film endeavor, it hold it's own with Miller's Crossing and Fargo.

This is possibly my favourite Coens' film. It has all of the things I like about Coen brothers movies (strange sense of humour, great characters and performances, great plot) with less of the things that occassionally irritate me about them (wackiness for the sake of it, self-consciously artistic photography). Plus, it's easily the scariest film they've ever made. I've always thought that in a lot of ways it's more like a Roman Polanski movie than a Coen brothers film.

By the way, should you capitalise the brothers in Coen B/brothers?

Sometimes I do and sometimes I don't, Coen brothers it should be perhaps...

It is almost a horror movie at times. I agree it is almost my favorite movie of theirs, if forced to pick what I think it their masterpeice (thus far) and my favorite, it has to be Miller's Crossing. But it is a tough choice.

The first Time I saw Blood Simple, when it first came out, good lord...22 years ago...I thought 'man who are these guys, what a fantastic movie'. They never fail to disappoint me, well except for Ladykillers..

The final scene between Frances McDormand and M. Emmet Walsh is one of the scariest things I've ever seen in any film, ever.

..it certainly is..it is a real seat squirmer...and yet a element of humor...Loren Visser always had to have the last word didn't he...

Well, ma'am, if I see him, I'll sure give him the message.

I found the whole scene with Ray and Marty at night in the plowed up field extremely disturbing as well.

as an aside, you make a lovely Nun E....

Oh yes, one of my all-time favs as well. Some great cinematic elements including:

1. the scene with the beams of like streaming into the room through the bullet holes the riddle the wall

2. the scaping of the blade of the shovel against the pavement.

I like the way it starts with the rain beating on the windshield of the car and you have to wonder if they even know where they are headed, much like the movie itself.

M. Emmet Walsh is just brilliant as the scum-bag Private Detective Loren Visser...

I was just recomending this film to a friend. And ran across this thread.

I cannot believe Equinox, Matt and myself are the only people to have seen and of course, rave about this movie. It really is a masterpiece, even though it is their first film, it is just about the best thing they, the Coen brothers, will ever do I think
