Season
One Review:
***1/2 out of ****
by Kevin Lang
Six years ago John Smith (Johnny) was in a horrible car accident
that put him into a coma. He has recently awoken to find that everything
has changed. His fiancee is married to another man, he discovers
that he has a son, and he also learns that with one touch he has
the strange ability to see into the future and into the past.
"Breakfast Club" (1985) alum Anthony Michael Hall plays
the main character of John Smith, who had been a schoolteacher prior
to his accident. Besides delivering decent performances, Hall and
the cast are fortunate enough to usually be delivered interesting
storylines that keep us engaged for the entire sixty-minute show.
Besides the sci-fi element, there is plenty of romantic tension
between Johnny and Sarah (Nicole de Boer - "Cube," 1997),
who is married to the town sheriff.
In season one Johnny uses his powers for such purposes as to stop
a serial killer, save a teenager, and to reunite long lost loves.
"The Dead Zone - Season One" on DVD will provide a quality
viewing experience even if you're not a sci-fi fan. And if you watch
the show regularly, then you should be impressed by its crisp transfer
to DVD, which helps avid viewers to better tap into Johnny Smith
and "The Dead Zone." -
