Panic Room (Superbit Deluxe Collection)
(2002)
Jodie Foster, Forest Whitaker
Director:
David Fincher
Rated R
for violence and language

Movie Synopsis: In 'Panic Room' , double Oscar®-winning actress Foster ('The Silence of the Lambs', 'The Accused') stars as newly divorced Meg Altman, who moves into a multi-level New York brownstone with her young daughter, Sarah (film newcomer Kristin Stewart). One of the key selling points is a small, technologically sophisticated "safe" room the previous owner installed in case of a dire emergency. Neither Meg nor Sarah know that they'll need to use the Panic Room sooner than they imagine. During the first night in the house, a villainous gang of thugs - played by Jared Leto ('Requiem for a Dream'), Forest Whitaker ('The Crying Game') and Dwight Yoakam ('Sling Blade') -- breaks into the house, searching for something they believe the previous owner left behind. Meg and Sarah endure an unforgettably suspenseful night of terror as they try to fend off the thieves from inside the confines of the Panic Room .
Worth Seeing?
David Fincher crafts a visually stunning and suspenseful thriller that holds us to the screen throughout. Almost the entire film takes place in a house, which the director utilizes well in the story. It could have delved deeper into some of the characters early on, but it nonetheless doesn't fail to satisfy. Suspense fans will crave for more. Moviegrade: A-

DVD Special Features Overall:
A Superbit Deluxe Edition! Wow! What does that mean exactly? We get an even clearer picture with even crisper sound, but we must pay the price for it by getting no other special features. Other than theatrical trailers, the "Panic Room" DVD was virtually barren of bonus materials. C'mon Columbia Tristar, Superbit is not an excuse to exclude the features that we've grown accustomed to.
